Scalp Micropigmentation at Voga Ink
If you have hair loss or thinning hair, it can really take a hit to your confidence, especially when it becomes noticeable. Scalp micro pigmentation, or SMP, can help in restoring the look of a full head of hair. At Voga Ink, we offer SMP to our clients for a variety of reasons.
What is scalp micropigmentation?
SMP (Scalp micropigmentation) is a way to add pigment to the skin to imitate tiny hair follicles. It’s an effective treatment for both men and women who are experiencing premature hair loss, pattern baldness, looking to cover scarring, or wanting a more defined hairline. These pigments combine with your existing hair to make it appear as though the hair on your scalp is thicker.
What is SMP used for?
Besides making your hair appear thicker and fuller, scalp micropigmentation uses pigments that carefully match the color of your natural hair to reshape and define your hairline. It is also used for hiding scars that may be from an accident or some hair transplantation procedures. In areas of scarring, hair follicles often do not grow hair, making the scar appear more visible.
A scalp micropigmentation procedure is an effective tool for helping people with:
- Scars on the scalp
- Receding hairlines
- Alopecia aerota
Is scalp micropigmentation noticeable?
The pigments combine with your own natural hair to make it appear as if your hairline is not receding and minimizes or eliminate the appearance of hair loss or scars. This is done using specialized needles which have been shaped to perfection and pigments specifically created for this application. Typically, this procedure is undetectable when done by a trained professional such as those at Voga Ink.
Is this the same as a tattoo?
Scalp micropigmentation does use pigments like a tattoo, but the procedure is much different than a conventional tattoo. There are two important differences between tattoos and scalp micropigmentation:
- Different types of pigment: The inks used for a tattoo are designed to go deep into the skin and last a lifetime. The pigments used for SMP are created to last for the life of an actual hair follicle, about 5 to 7 years.
- Small needles. Because the purpose of SMP is to look like tiny hair follicles, the needles are very tiny. When you get a tattoo, the needles are much larger because they cover more area and go deeper into the skin.
Does scalp micropigmentation hurt?
Most of our clients at Voga Ink feel very mild to no discomfort. Since the tiny needles aren’t designed to go into the skin as deeply as tattoos, the pain is minimal.
What is the downtime after the procedure?
Since the procedure is not usually painful, there is virtually no downtime. You can go back to your normal activities as soon as you leave the salon.
Is scalp micropigmentation for everyone?
During your consultation, we will assess your needs and design a treatment plan that is right for you. If it’s for defining your hairline, you and your technician will decide together on a hairline that suits your facial structure.
