The Most Important Things To Know About Saline And Laser Tattoo Removal

It isn’t every day you go in for tattoo removal. After all, once you get a tattoo you expect it to last forever right? But sometimes they just need to go. The good news about this is that there are options for getting your tattoos removed! Personally at Voga Salon, we prefer saline, however, you should know the details about both to be able to make the best decision for yourself.

What is Laser Tattoo Removal?

Laser tattoo removal is, as the name implies tattoo removal through the use of lasers. The lasers are able to remove your tattoos by casting short pulses of strong light designs to penetrate deep enough into the skin that the pigment absorbs it. Then, it breaks up into fragments, which the laser can push down to be removed by the body’s natural waste system. Depending on the laser, it can target different specific colors too, because the laser can only remove what it can “see”. It’s because of this fact that it can take a couple of different wavelengths to remove an entire tattoo, especially if that tattoo has a lot of different colors. Knowing what lasers you want to remove your tattoos is another part of tattoo removal, so be careful!

Unfortunately with lasers, there is a healing process of about a week or longer, and blistering can occur as a result. Of course, that depends on the laser. And should you be looking to remove tattoos on your brows, we heavily recommend using saline removal methods instead, as lasers can permanently remove your brow hair. It can also be hard to put tattoos over skin that has been lasered, so you have the risk of not getting tattoos in the area anymore. There are also limitations with what lasers can do. They can not remove the color white, and most people aren’t willing to use them on the lips or around the eyes. They can also hurt, to the point of blistering. But if you have a tattoo on your arm, leg, stomach, or back with few colors and no white spots, it will be an effective method of removal.

What Is Saline Tattoo Removal?

Saline is the more comfortable choice of the two methods, and better controlled. The saline is done manually, and worked with a tattoo gun, meaning there is less opportunity for machine error. It is similar in terms of cost to laser tattoo removal and is able to pick up what lasers put down. In other words, it's safe on the lips and face and can also remove white ink. It can be used safely on brows as well. The biggest problem with saline is that it will take a little longer, especially with larger tattoos. So while it isn’t as fast a method, it certainly gets the job done and has more reach than its counterpart.

So Which Method Is Better?

This is completely up to you and what your preferences are. Laser tattoo removal is quick, effective, and efficient. It requires a little more research but since tattoo techniques are used in saline removal, if you’re looking to get in and out quickly this is your best bet. Full-body tattoos are also better tackled with laser tattoos due to the surface area they cover. That being said, if you don’t mind waiting, you will have less discomfort, fewer risks, and no blisters when you choose saline. It is a safer method, able to tackle more problems, and is able to remove facial tattoos without risk.

Recovery After Tattoo Removal

With both methods, 7-10 days after your tattoo removal service should be around the time it takes your skin to heal. However, with potential blistering from laser removal, it could take a little longer. The main thing you want to do is treat your skin gently. Follow any instructions you were given for proper care.
