How to Create Loose Curls

We have recently launched a new segment in our Facebook Fan Page called “Ask a Stylist.” A member of the audience asked us to show how to achieve a loose curls look, so we made a video to show how:

Couple of other good questions were:

Q:I Had color removed from my hair (it was damaged in the processes) I ended up cutting a lot of it off. There are parts of my hair that still don’t want to hold color well. Is there anything I can do to get it to hold color, without having to cut it again?

Answer:

There a few different causes for color fading so we have a few recommendations to offer you to help!

  1. It is important to make sure that your hair is hydrated. When hair is lacking moisture it is difficult for the hair shaft to be able to hold color molecules, which results in fading. We recommend you use a Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner to help hydrate.
  2. During these hot summer months, we recommend you use a product that provides UV protection. The sun is a big culprit when it comes to fading in the summer.
  3. It is important that you use always use a thermal protectant whenever using any heat on your hair. You could be using great hydrating products but if you use a blow dryer or hot iron without a thermal protectant you are drying out all the moisture you just put into the hair.

Q:Is there anyway I could prevent my dyed hair from fading everytime I shampoo?

Answer:

It sounds like the stylist used a bleach cap to remove your existing color, which unfortunately damages it in the process. A safer method would have been to use a color extractor, which does not contain bleach, peroxide or ammonia. So what we recommend you do in the meantime is to use a Repair Shampoo & Conditioner daily, as well as a Repair Mask once a week. Next time you are in need of a color come to Voga and we can use a porosity equalizer before your color service to help those dry spots hold the color molecules!
