Winter Care for Your Hair Extensions
Hair extensions can be great to lengthen, add color, and even change the texture of your hair. However, it’s important to realize that you need to take steps, just as you would your natural hair, to keep them healthy in the winter.
At Voga Salon, we can give you the hair extensions you want while giving you expert advice and hair care products that will keep your natural hair and extensions healthy and manageable all winter long.
Don’t wash as often. Between the shampoo products and the hot water, washing your hair daily can strip your hair of its natural oils. Washing only a few times a week with a shampoo and conditioner that is specifically designed for hair extension care will keep your hair extensions and natural hair looking their best in-between visits.
Use the right hair products. At Voga Salon, we offer a full line of hair extension haircare products that work for all of the extensions that we offer. From shampoos, conditioners, scalp serum, extension refresh, and more, we can supply you with all your hair care needs.
Increase moisture in the winter. During the winter, both your natural hair and extensions need a boost of moisture to protect you from the dry winter air. Heat protectants, weekly conditioning treatments, and other products can help your hair soft, manageable, and healthy during the winter months. Using a humidifier in your home will help to keep moisture in the air, which is healthy for your hair, extensions, and even your skin!
Turn down the heat. We understand that heated styling tools can be a daily need for you to style your hair in between salon appointments. However, limiting the usage and turning down the heat when you do use them, can help to keep your hair and extensions healthy. Breakage and excessive dryness can occur with constant styling tool use.
Know how to brush your hair. Before you leave with your hair extensions, your Voga stylist will show you the right way to brush your extensions. Brush below the bonds and in a downward direction which is the natural direction of your hair. A brush that is gentle to your extensions should be used to protect against breakage. Brushing at least 1-3 times a day will help your natural oils to be dispersed through both your natural hair and extensions.
Don’t go out with wet hair. If your hair isn’t completely dry, the wetness can freeze and cause breakage and damage to both your hair and extensions.
Cover your hair with care. It’s typical to wear hats or beanies in the winter. However, even the softest beanie can cause static and frizz, or even lead to damage from rubbing. Wrap your hair in a silk scarf or invest in winter hats that have a silk lining to protect your hair while keeping you warm.
A good winter routine for your hair will keep both your natural hair and extensions healthy-looking and free from breakage during the winter. If you have any questions about your extensions, your stylist would love to help you!
