Secrets To Growing Out Short Hair

Secrets to Growing Out Short Hair

Short hair is super fun, but growing it out can sometimes be a real challenge. Quite often an overgrown pixie cut takes on a mind of its own. There are some secrets to growing out short hair that will keep it under control and looking great.

Keep Expectations Realistic

Growing out your hair can lead to frustration if you start with unrealistic expectations. Hair typically grows about ½ inch per month. So, depending on how short your hair is when you start the process, it could take about 6-9 months to reach your shoulders. You’ll have plenty of time to experiment with fun new styles along the way.

Headbands Are Your New BFF

When it comes to growing out your hair, headbands are your best friend. They can transform unruly hair in seconds. Use a wide headband to tame an out of control cowlick. Use a thin one to hold back a growing fringe and add definition, or one with flowers or bling to just dress it up a little.

Stock Up on Bobby Pins

Bobby pins are such a versatile styling tool. Want to tuck your hair behind your ears, but it’s not quite long enough to stay put? Pin it. Use bobby pins to help create braids and twists. Use them to set wet hair that is still too short for rollers or curling irons. Allow it to air dry for perfect pin curls or waves. Fake a bouffant with some pins and a bit of hairspray. The sky’s the limit!

Just Go Wild

If your hair is virtually untamable, just go wild with it. Use hair gel or spiking putty on straight hair for an edgy punk rock style. Apply scrunching mousse to curly hair and tousle those curls for a fun casual look. Working with what nature gave you instead of against it will cut down on frustration and make styling your hair easier.

Schedule Regular Trims

It may seem counterintuitive, but getting regular trims while growing out your hair is very important. If you’ve been growing your hair for a long time but don’t seem to be getting anywhere, check your ends. If the ends of your hair are dry, damaged, or split you could be losing length to breakage. Keeping those ends trimmed will help you reach your goal sooner by keeping your strands healthy and strong.
