How To Take Care Of Your Colored Hair
Pretend you’ve just walked out of the salon with your freshly colored hair. It looks stunning and you feel great about it so of course, you want to keep that hair color looking vibrant for as long as possible. To do so, proper hair care between hair coloring is a must. Here are seven tips for you to get the most out of your color.
Consult your stylist
The first thing you should do is talk to your stylist. He or she is going to be the best expert on what products you should use since they’re the one who colored your hair. As your stylist, he or she has the resources and know how to recommend the best products and techniques to keep everything looking great until your next visit.
Wash less
Pigment escapes from hair strands every time you wash your hair, so ask your stylist how long to wait before shampooing and then when you do wash, do it less often. Hair only needs to be shampooed about two or three times a week. In between washes you can use a dry shampoo to keep it fresh or maybe try co-shampooing, where you use conditioner to wash your hair.
Condition
Conditioning is incredibly important. It keeps hair soft, healthy-looking, and repairs damage. When your hair is well-conditioned it makes your color look bright and shimmering. Use color-safe conditioners that work for your hair type, if you need recommendations don’t be afraid to ask your stylist.
Deep conditioning
After coloring, your hair might need some extra repair. If your hair is dry and unmanageable after conditioning, try deep conditioning treatments. Talk with your stylist about a deep conditioning treatment to be done at the salon or ask for products for you to use at home.
Avoid heat
Use heated styling tools as little as possible - continuous use of heat on hair causes damage. If you have to use heated styling tools, use a heat protectant first. If you regularly take hot showers, turn the heat down a bit since high water temperatures can also damage hair and fade color.
Trim split ends
To keep your hair looking great and prevent further damage, regularly trim your split ends. Plan to get a trim before your hair coloring and then visit the salon regularly to maintain your stunning hair. Depending on your length and hair type, you may need trims every four to six weeks.
Eat a balanced diet
A healthy diet really shows on the outside, giving you healthy skin, hair, and nails. Be sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables with lean proteins and whole grains and avoid junk food as much as possible. All of this helps your body build keratin, which is the protein your hair needs to look great and stay strong
