How To Make Your Haircut Last Longer

How to Make Your Haircut Last Longer

Sometimes life gets busy, especially around the holidays, and it can be difficult to fit all of our to-do lists into our schedule. One of the first places we make sacrifices when our calendars are stretched seems to be with our beauty routine, but you still want to look your best even when you’re in a time crunch. Here are a few tips to help make your haircut last longer and keep it looking great until your next appointment.

Plan Ahead

It always pays to plan ahead. If you know you're coming up on a busy season of life, such as around the holidays, make an appointment for a cut just before you expect your schedule to get chaotic. Ask your stylist to cut it a little shorter than usual so that it will take longer to grow past your comfort zone before your next trim. It’s better to be a little shorter than you like now than too long and shaggy looking later.

Shampoo Less

If you’re not going to be able to get a trim when you should, it’s important to take extra care with your hair. Every time you shampoo it strips natural oils, oils that are meant to moisturize and protect your hair. Most people only need to shampoo a couple of times per week. You’ll have to experiment to find a shampoo routine that avoids overwashing without leaving your locks limp and greasy. Dry shampoo is an excellent option to extend the time between shampoos.

Keep It Conditioned

A good conditioner helps moisturize and nourish your strands to keep them shiny and healthy-looking. It’s especially important when your trim schedule is interrupted to avoid split ends. So be sure you’re conditioning regularly, paying special attention to the tips of your hair. Since they aren’t being cut away as they usually would, they’ll need extra care to stay strong.

Avoid Heat

Heat styling is among the top causes of hair damage. It’s not a huge deal when you’re trimming damaged ends regularly, but when you have to take a break from the salon you’ll quickly end up with fried split ends if you overdo it with the heat. Opt for no heat hairstyles when possible. If you must heat style keep it set to low, and always apply a thermal protectant first.

You don’t have to sacrifice your appearance for your schedule. With the proper planning and care you can keep your haircut looking fresh longer, just don’t wait too long to come in for a trim. It’s easier to prevent damage than reverse it. Come see our talented stylists at Voga Salon for a fresh haircut to start your holiday season off right.
